CHALLENGE 6

  • What is the third world, and why are some countries developing while others claim to be developed?

In today's lesson we have talked about Facoult perspective. He was interesting in the ways in which knowledge, language and culture operates in society. So, by the very first moment I was very interesting because three items are essential to live coherently in group.

We also have talked about different discourses such as straight or gay (terms based on sexuality prejudices), huts and houses (we see huts as primitive/poor while houses as progress/modernity).
I would like to comment that is the way of seeing things that change the meaning of them. A nice example is that in India they call home, so there are no connotation. They focus their language on the function, I think this is wonderful!

The topic of sthereotypes again come to class. The teacher explained the "Systema natura" which is a book of Carl LinnĂ©. In that book, there are different pictures/sthereotypes for American people(cooper-coloured, choleric. Hair black, straight, thick, etc.), Europeans (fear, sanguine, brawny, hair, yellow, flowing...), Asiatic people (melancholy, rigid, hair black, eyes dark, etc.) and to conclude the Africans (black, phlegmatic, relaxed, hair black). According to that characteristics that I completely desagree, the European people is better than the other nationalities. So, the poor people believe that we are superior or we have the truth as the teachers told us.

I really hate that characteristics because we can not judge the person for his origin. Sthereotypes are not real, everything is relative that's why everybody is different and unique. Nevertheless, it's true that black people has big nouses but it is because the climate conditions. We have to meet people before judging them by their appareance or country!!!
